In the article “Thanksgiving Feast” by Mark Smith and “The Pilgrims” by Leslie May, both state how Thanksgiving came about. Although they are similar, they have differences too. In this essay, we will list these similarities and differences of the two articles.
In the article “Thanksgiving Feast” by Mark Smith and “The Pilgrims” by Leslie May, the authors have many similarities. One way they are similar is they both state the food that was harvested or hunted. Another way they are similar is everyone ended up giving thanks in the end by having a big feast. To go along with that, both articles also state that the English Separates had hardships. The articles stated that they both had long hard winters, sickness, and disease. Although both articles had similarities, they also had differences.
In the article “Thanksgiving Feast” by Mark Smith and “The Pilgrims” by Leslie May, the authors have many differences. The first way they are different is in “Thanksgiving Feast” by Mark Smith. They list the main disease that was making the English Separates die out or get extremely ill. This disease was called Pneumonia. Another way the articles are different is “The Pilgrims” by Leslie May calls them the English Separates. This is because they weren’t gave the nickname The Pilgrims until late after all of them died. Also, in the “The Pilgrims” by Leslie May, it lists what the Indians wore. These were things such as robes or clothes made from deer and rabbit skins. To go along with that, “Thanksgiving Feast” by Mark Smith lists the traditional Thanksgiving foods such as turkey, pumpkin pie, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, and ham. These are the ways the article “Thanksgiving Feast” by Mark Smith and “The Pilgrims” by Leslie May are different.
In conclusion, the article “Thanksgiving Feast” by Mark Smith and “The Pilgrims” by Leslie May both showed us how Thanksgiving came about. The articles had many similarities and differences. But in the end, they both revealed why Thanksgiving is so important to America.
